Greater Noida Authority Cracks Down on Builder Negligence: ₹54 Lakh Fine Imposed over Sewage Treatment Failures

In a significant move aimed at safeguarding the city’s environment, the Greater Noida Authority has levied a hefty penalty totalling ₹54 lakh on seven prominent builders who failed to ensure proper treatment of sewage generated from residential societies. After recent inspections, officials found several housing projects in violation of mandatory regulations, with non-functional Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) leading to untreated waste being dumped directly into local drains.

The Additional CEO of GNIDA stated that the Authority is actively pushing for 100% treatment and reuse of sewage across Greater Noida and Greater Noida West, as per the directions of CEO NG Ravi Kumar. Mandatory STPs in builder societies are part of these efforts, and any deviation invites strict action including possible FIRs and further legal consequences in line with National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) directives.

Among the projects fined were Rajhans Residency, Paramount Emotions, Devika Homes, Capital Athena, Panchsheel Hynish, JM Florence, and Panchsheel Greens 2. The largest penalties were imposed on Devika Homes (₹10 lakh), Panchsheel Hynish (₹12 lakh), and Panchsheel Greens 2 (₹12 lakh) for repeated and serious violations. Builders have been explicitly warned that recurring violations will lead not only to financial penalties, but also possible criminal charges and stricter regulatory scrutiny.

This action serves as a warning to other developers in the region: compliance with sewage treatment rules is non-negotiable. The Authority stressed that untreated sewage isn’t just a legal violation, but also contributes significantly to local environmental degradation and public health risks. Moving forward, the GNIDA will increase inspections and ensure all societies operate within the norms, including the construction and ongoing management of STPs.
